A few weeks ago I headed to Matetic Vineyards. It’s about an hour and a half’s drive from Santiago. Unlike many other wineries, it’s ultra modern in style and follows the principles of organic and biodynamic harvesting.
Winery tour
First we had a tour of the nordic style winery. Water is filtered through the natural pebble wall cladding to keep the cellars cool. It’s an impressive sight.
The tasting
And then the best bit – the tasting. Matetic wines are organic, biodynamic and delicious.
Located close to the Pacific Ocean, the vineyards experience cool nights, morning mists and sea breezes. This makes the grapes ripen slowly and gives the wine a natural acidity and crisp tang.
Kid friendly
As always my kids were running rather wild, but staff were very patient. Perhaps the wine helps?
Equilibrio Restaurant
Then we headed to Equilibrio Restaurant, which is a five minute drive from the winery itself.
The food is simple, yet refined, with a focus on Chilean dishes. Service was great. The menu is all about sourcing really good local ingredients and preserving the very best flavours.
I meant to take more photos, but got a little distracted outdoors. It’s a beautiful place to explore, even if you’re not a wine lover.
Equilibrio is perfect for children too. There is indoor and outdoor seating and so much space for kids to roam free.
Hotel La Casona
While we didn’t stay, there is also a hotel, La Casona, which I hear is very good. In fact, one member of my family was close to staying there alone, until I warned him we were heading home.
Address: Fundo El Rosario s/n, San Antonio, Valparaíso, Chile.
