10 of the most uplifting places in the world

Life abroad is exciting, at times glamourous and generally very fun. But expat life is no substitute for a holiday. If you’re lacking vacation ideas, my blogger friend Rebecca has listed ten of the most uplifting places in the world to travel to right now…

Banff National Park

Arguably Canada’s most famous national park, Banff is somewhere that deserves to be on everyone’s travel wishlist.

Teeming with lush glacial lakes that are home to some of the most strikingly blue water in the world, as well as forests and mountainscapes, it’s a place of natural beauty. There are so many activities to be enjoyed in Banff National Park too – hiking, mountain biking, ice walks and paddle boarding… There really is something for everyone.

Milford Sound

Often cited as the “eighth wonder of the world”, Milford Sound in New Zealand is a place that’s sure to uplift your spirits. The mightily impressive Mitre Peak mountain towers above the icy waters at 1,692 metres tall. Dolphins, penguins and seals also make their home within the confines of the mountains, rocks and waterfalls that surround the fjord.

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is linked by the Rainbow Bridge to both the USA and Canada. It’s a truly special place. The falls themselves are incredibly impressive and are sure to leave you feeling uplifted and inspired. It’s a natural work of art unlike anything else in the world.

Ha Long Bay

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ha Long Bay is a captivating place that attracts millions of visitors every year. Jungle islands, giant sea rocks, and topaz waters: it’s an otherworldly site full of enigmatic history and legend.

The Himalayas

Home to the mighty Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, the Himalayas span across many countries. It’s not easy to reach the Himalayas, and even less so to reach the summit of Mount Everest, but just a glimpse of the ethereal mountainous landscapes is enough to feel your spirits soar.

Prague

Prague in the Czech Republic is becoming increasingly popular. And for good reason – it’s home to so much history and stunning architecture that it wholeheartedly deserves the recognition. From the ancient Prague Castle, to an abundance of great places to eat and drink, Prague has a charm unlike any other European city.

Bora Bora

Known as one of the most idyllic and paradisal places on earth, Bora Bora island in the French Polynesia is one of the most beautiful honeymoon destinations in the world. You’ll find luxurious water bungalows, fresh seafood, as well as some of the clearest turquoise waters in the world. It’s a romantic destination unlike anything else and it’s sure to create an everlasting impact.

Bagan

Residing in Myanmar, Bagan’s skyline is otherworldly and has a surreal enigma surrounding it. Home to around 2,200 temples today, it once boasted over 10,000 structures which fell during natural disasters and wars. Bagan is incredibly magical and mysterious.

Yosemite National Park

One of America’s most famous parks, Yosemite National Park packs a punch when it comes to vast landscapes and natural habitats. Awe-inspiring vistas,  waterfalls, forests and mountains… Yosemite is on bucket lists for good reason.
