The most instagrammable breakfast cafe in Santiago?

Update: Bistro Botanico in Vitacura has now closed. The owners will be opening a new joint, ‘even prettier and bigger’, in Lo Barnechea. Watch this space…

Last week was fun, but sad.

A friend who helped me immensely when I first moved to Chile is moving back to the UK. She’d organised a breakfast meet up for a few girlfriends and I reckon she chose the most instagrammable cafe in Santiago.

It’s called Botanica Bistro and is just across the corner from the Casa Costanera mall in Vitacura. I just had to take a few pics.

The cafe opened in December last year, and you’d struggle to find the website. Of course it does have an Instagram account.

It doesn’t have a sign either. In fact the only clue to suggest it’s open is… umm… a ‘closed’ sign.

It’s like entering a secret garden.

It wasn’t just a feast for the eyes. The cafe makes its own bread, juices and yoghurt. And hoorah, there are options for vegans, vegetarians and coeliacs.

My almond butter with banana on sourdough toast was yummy.

Washed down with a roiboos tea.

The staff are really friendly, and speak fabulous English. A few Aussie friends weren’t that struck on the coffee, but it’s lovely little spot for breakfast, a light lunch or tea.

So to my friend Ellie, we’ll all miss you. But I reckon in your honour we might just have to go back to Botanica even after you’ve left. Ellie, If you’re stopping by Latin America, I’ll be the in the back, photographing the wallpaper.
